So, you might be wondering: "Sub-species? I thought this was a simple wolf RP." Well, it is a wolf RP, but there just so happens to be several different types of wolf your character could be. Each of the discovered sub-species will be described as best as possible here.
Weight Range: 80-150lbs
Height Range: 26-38in at shoulder
General Description: Normal, or natural wolves, tend to be viewed as the "weakest", but they can be anything but that. Most natural wolves can be taught many combative techniques, and normal elemental magics. Unlike the other sub-species, they are not inherently bound to a certain element, "job", power, or Spirit and can often choose the paths they wish to travel. With devoted training, a natural wolf can rival Hafling Varganos or Born Silverblood wolves.
Wolves are covered in a moderate length pelt across most of their body. The color of their fur may range from pure black to pure white, with any tint or shade of gray, tan, cream, ochre (yellow-gold), sienna (reddish brown), and brown between. On Wolves having light and dark patterned fur, the markings tend to be lighter on the belly and graduate to darker/longer/thicker fur on the back.
In the wintertime a Wolf's pelt usually grows quite thick to keep the Wolf comfortable at cold temperatures. During this time the pelt fills in with a short, dense, under-growth of fine, or downy, light colored fur. This is called a "prime coat." In spring this fur is then shed, thinning the pelt dramatically to prevent the Wolf from over-heating as summer temperatures rise.
Some Wolves, especially dark furred Wolves, have phases where their pelt lightens significantly during certain seasons or as they age. A black-phase Wolf starts life with a very dark or black pelt which may become lighter in the summer and then darken again in the winter. A dark or black-phase Wolf's fur also tends to lighten with age and may become light gray, or even white, as the Wolf reaches his or her senior years.
Wolves are generally born with dark or black fur which lightens as they mature. It is unlikely that Wolves are subject to albinism, as no living examples exist.
Weight Range: 110-175lbs
Height Range: 30-38in at shoulder
General Description: Dire wolves tend to be viewed as one of the "weakest" when compared to some of the more magically inclined species, but they can be anything but that. All Dire wolves can be taught many combative techniques, and normal elemental magics. Unlike the other sub-species, they are not inherently bound to a certain element, "job", power, or Spirit and can often choose the paths they wish to travel. With devoted training, a dire wolf can rival Hafling Varganos, Born Silverblood wolves and even the large Eagle Warriors. Dire wolves are especially talented in the realm of physical attacks, at least in terms of sheer power.
Dire wolves are part of the same carnivorous guild as the smaller gray wolves and coyotes. Dire wolves' overpowering bite, 129% of the force of the modern gray wolf, could hold and subdue their prey. As inferred from their large bodies and carnivorous teeth, they often took on large prey or megafauna, made possible by traveling in packs. Dire wolves were not specialized hunters—they fed on whatever megafauna was abundant.

Weight Range: 110-170lbs
Height Range: 26-40in at shoulder
General Description: "Vampire" wolves. Powerful, demonic and immortal, they suffer from the Thirst, a mental aliment that drives them to consume mainly blood and other various poisonous and venomous things. If the Thirst is disobeyed for long enough, or if a Vargano is forced into a state of rage, they succumb to the primal but powerful urge called "Blood Rage". All Vargano wolves have fire as an element.
Due to their highly poisonous diet, the bodily fluids of a Vargano are toxic to other organic materials such as other animals and plants. The saliva from a bite will transfer a Varganos' venom, a toxic substance that destroys the red blood cells of wolves of natural descent, killing them in preparation of feeding or the Transformation Ritual. By the time the later period of the Hafling stage is reached, this venom is powerful enough that it has been given a special name, "Death Strike".
The Transformation Ritual can only be performed on a new moon. Once a wolf has been injected with the Death Strike and died, the Eld or "Parent" Vargano must pace a circle around the corpse and howl to the sky three times. Each howl represents one of the different phases in a Varganos' life: the Nuling, the Hafling, and the Sevling. After howling, a chant to the Monarch is sang, the Nuling should then be resurrected.
Haflings are stronger than natural wolves, but are more explosive in their anger, hurting the ones around them more often than not. Haflings tend to be rather solitary until they mature into a Sevling. The time gap between becoming a Hafling and becoming a Sevling depends on circumstance, but may take multiple scores, if not centuries, but never less than a single score. It is by this life stage that abilities such as heightened regeneration and venom become usable.
Sevlings are very powerful compared to Haflings, but are much less volatile, and only experience Blood Rage under extreme physical and emotional stress. If they manage to live to this life state, Sevlings do not have to feed nearly as often as a Nuling or Hafling, and experience the Thirst less and less as they age. It is during this phase in life that a Vargano can begin to refine their mental capabilities. A Sevling tends to be very wise and well-mannered. Only Sevlings can create a Nuling Vargano.
[/ul]
They have their own "court", their ranks are Monarch, Count/Countess, Duke/Duchess and down. They deal with the underworld, particularly, they deal with containing demons in the underworld and transporting the retched. Blood Red is the oldest, most volatile and powerful of the Varganos. She is the very first Vargano wolf, a demon-slayer by all standards, and the Monarch.
Weight Range: 0-130lbs
Height Range: Varies, usually 26-38in at shoulders
General Description: Silverbloods are wolves that are mostly ghost like. They tend to be descendants of spirits and normal wolves or ghosts and naturals. They can have varying appearances, but they tend to be of the same general build and body shape of normal wolves. Born Silverbloods, or Silverbloods born from a Spirit and Lower Species union tend to be about as powerful as the average trained Eagle Warrior, but weaker than a Mystic.
Non-born Silverbloods are the wisps, or ghosts of wolves, and still have a slight physical place in the world. Most non-born Silverbloods appear in dreams or physically manifest during nights when it isn't a new moon. The touch of a non-born Silverblood is palpable, and they can have pups, though, this is easier with a male non-born and a living female.
All Silverbloods create cold air and frost around them, that being said, Silverbloods, born or non-born, are elementally bound to wind and water, and are more comfortable in cooler places.
Weight Range: 135-180lbs
Height Range: 36-44in at shoulders
General Description: Eagle Warriors are insanely powerful wolves that have strong elemental magic and are highly spiritual, the females of the sub-species are born with large wings that give them a natural ability to fly. Eagle Warriors tend to be highly volitile and unstable with their powers until properly trained.
When a litter is born, only the females are "Warriors". Males are carriers and express weaker elemental magic than a female Eagle Warrior, they do not have wings, but they are as intellectually gifted as their female relatives. A male's female pups tend to be Eagle Warriors.
All Eagle Warriors, male or female, have a strong affinity with the spiritual powers of healing, and tend to be spiritually bound to Twi, the Earth and Healing Spirit. They have rapid regenerative abilities along with vast magical energy reserves.
Weight Range: 75-220lbs
Height Range: 24-44in at shoulders
General Description: Mystics are the offspring of the spirits, and sometimes just one spirit. These wolves tend to inherit more of the dominate spirit's traits, personality quirks, and abilities. They have a broad spectrum of appearance, and powers dependent on their parents, but the one certain thing is that they are MUCH stronger than any natural sub species and will always have a mastery in magic.
Weight Range: 0-220lbs
Height Range: 24-44in at shoulders
General Description: Vessels are the wolves possessed by a spirit. These wolves tend to be twisted up and changed to show the dominate spirit's traits, personality quirks, and abilities. They have a broad spectrum of appearance, and powers dependent on whichever spirit has possessed the body, but the one certain thing is that they are MUCH stronger than any aforementioned sub species and will always have a mastery in magic stronger than even the Mystics, for they are the physical embodiment of the creating forces of the universe.
The body of the possessed wolf may or may not be changed much, all is dependent on the personality of the Spirit possessing. When the Void possesses, the vessel is overwhelmed with entropy and killed, the body rotting and eventually giving away to decay. When the decay has crippled the body of the vessel, the Void will simply reach out and possess a newer body and repeat the cycle.
Whereas on the complete opposite of the spectrum, when the Spirit of Water possesses the body of a wolf not much is changed except the powers exhibited. Water is flexible and adaptive, fitting to the shape of her vessel in a gentle and calm way, allowing the preservation of the vessel's mind and body. Water is not coercive with her will, and will guide her chosen's actions through advice and suggestion, lending the full extents of her powers only when she knows that one is ready and can handle it without being obliterated. Typically once Water's reason for using the Vessel is over, she will gently leave the mind and body.
It should be noted that Light rarely if ever possesses a living being as a vessel, for her heat and energy burns the body up too quick and the damage is so great that it can not be reversed. Light prefers to craft a vessel from both herself and Earth, and she then fills this shell, the rock on the outside hardening and twisting into a somewhat transparent yellow crystal. This being said, if she ever does decide to take a living being as a vessel, being that the creature is strong enough to withstand her brilliance for more than a few moments, crystals will form over the skin, and the teeth and claws will harden to something a kin to diamond. If the skin is fractured, the vessel will explode in a great wave of heat and force. Either way, when Light's purpose on the earth is finished, the vessel will turn to stone then fall away into sand at the slightest touch.
When Fire possesses a body, the vessel is filled with great heat and anger. All bodily fluids are replaced with molten lava, which causes the skin to crack and leak lava, crusting over with blackened rock. This is the most prominent at the joints and paw pads. The great passionate anger and rage felt corrodes the mind of the vessel, until there is nothing left but the drive to act upon the most basic and primal of instincts. This state of mind would stay if even if the vessel could be saved, but when Fire is finished with the body, it turns to stone.
Earth rarely ever feels the need to intervene in the happenings of beasts, but when he does choose a vessel he chooses a calm but stern wolf. When he possesses the wolf, the consciousness and will is preserved, but the will of Earth is dominate and he will normally choose to follow his own plans, effectively making the wolf a prisoner of his own body. While possessed the wolf's skin turns to stone and the pelt is replaced with flowering moss, vines and thick grass. When moving, sand falls from the joints. When Earth is finished enacting his will, he withdraws from the body of the wolf, stone and plants cracking and falling off the pelt of the once possessed wolf, returning him to his pre-possessed appearance.
When Wind takes a wolf, the wolf stops being physical and is instead converted into wind. The body that is seen is not a body, but is instead dust that is picked up and carried by the swirling vortexes that now compose the wolf's body. Mentally, they become more floaty, less caring about the world as they start to float around, keeping their heads in the clouds as they care more for having fun and playing games with other beasts. After Wind leaves, the vessel's mind slowly returns back to normal as Wind's influence over them disappears, the dust solidifying and becoming the wolf's physical form once more.
